Imagine dedicating your entire professional life to one company.
Over a decade of loyalty, deep knowledge of one particular environment… but feeling that itch, knowing it’s time for something completely different.
It’s a significant leap, often filled with uncertainty.
That’s the position my long-time friend, Glenn, found himself in.
After years with the same employer, the time had come for a new challenge.
His journey from facing the daunting prospect of the job market after decades away to landing a great new role in just six weeks is a powerful illustration of focused strategy and taking decisive action.
Glenn and I have known each other for years.
When he found himself ready to explore opportunities beyond the company walls he knew so well, he reached out.
His first step? A CV Consultation.
Glenn is incredibly experienced, but his CV didn’t reflect that depth.
He shared a very professional-looking one-pager, but it summarised his extensive career into just four bullet points.
It looked neat, but it wasn’t selling the wealth of experience and skills he possessed.
We knew immediately we had to fix that.
We worked together to unpack his career, identifying key achievements and transferable skills that might not have seemed obvious after so long in one place.
I restructured and rewrote his CV, transforming it from a brief overview into a compelling narrative showcasing his value and impact.
The results? Immediate and impressive.
Glenn applied for three distinct roles using his new CV and secured interviews for all three!
What a difference the right presentation makes!
Another interview opportunity arose directly from a connection Glenn made during a group coaching session I had hosted – proof that networking combined with preparation pays off.
With interviews on the horizon, the next hurdle was preparation.
Coincidentally, I was hosting a free webinar focused specifically on Interview Preparation techniques.
Glenn attended and was a star pupil, absorbing the strategies on how to effectively prepare and present himself.
He put his learning into practice straight away.
While he didn’t land the very first role he interviewed for (they determined he lacked certain technical capabilities), the interview panel was so impressed with him overall that they advised the recruitment team to find him an alternative role as he was the right fit for the organisation.
However, Glenn didn’t end up needing that recommendation.
He aced his interview with the public sector organisation!
He successfully secured the role and started his new job in mid-March.
What’s truly remarkable is the timeframe: just six weeks elapsed from Glenn deciding to take action and stepping into his exciting new role.
As his friend and career coach, seeing him make such a successful transition fills me with pride.
Well done Glenn! You should be really proud.
