I see this mistake happening every single week with my clients.

They feel like they are being ghosted by recruiters.

They feel like their applications are going absolutely nowhere.

The Problem With Easy Apply

It builds a massive amount of frustration when you are already feeling stuck.

I want to explain why Easy Apply is often a route to nowhere.

Think about it from a recruiter's perspective.

They have applications coming from the company website and internal referrals.

They have candidates from niche job boards and platforms like Indeed.

Then they have LinkedIn.

Why the Algorithm Is Misleading

The problem is that LinkedIn tries to tell you which jobs are a "good match" for you.

A few weeks ago, LinkedIn told me I was a "top applicant" for a Workday Compensation Solution Architect role.

I have a background in HR tech, but I am certainly not an architect or a subject matter expert.

I have never even worked in compensation.

I was absolutely the wrong fit for that role.

Yet the algorithm encouraged me to apply because it thought I had a high chance of success.

The Recruiter’s Perspective

When you click that button, you are entering a pool full of people who are not the right fit.

Recruiters are overwhelmed by the sheer volume of low quality applications from that one button.

They will almost always look at the company website or referrals first.

Even if you are a talented individual, your CV gets buried in the noise.

A Better Way to Apply

LinkedIn is still a fantastic tool for finding opportunities and setting up alerts.

Use it to find the role, but do not apply through the platform.

Take the job title and the company name and put them into Google.

Find the official company website and apply directly through their own career portal.

I guarantee you will have more success with this approach.

It takes a few extra minutes, but it ensures your CV actually gets seen by the right people.

Good luck with your job searches this week, and if you’d like to learn how I can help you further, Book a free, no-obligation 30-minute consultationwith me and tell me your story.

Let’s see if I can help you shift the dial and secure your new career.
